Rates are fetched once and cached in your browser for 12 hours, so the tool keeps working offline on a cached rate if you lose connectivity. This is the one tool in the app that talks to a server at all — every other tool works with zero network requests.

- The first load of each session fetches live rates from the European Central Bank; after that, rates are cached locally for 12 hours and the converter keeps working offline using the cached rate.
- How current are the exchange rates?
- They come directly from the ECB's daily reference rates, published once per business day — not real-time trading rates, but the standard reference banks use.
- Is any of my conversion data sent anywhere?
- No — only the rate-fetch request goes out (currency codes, no personal data); the amounts and currencies you actually convert stay in your browser.
