Matte runs entirely in your browser. No files, text, images, or personal data you enter into any tool are ever transmitted to a server. Everything stays on your device.

The only exception is the Currency Converter, which fetches live exchange rates from the European Central Bank via the Frankfurter API. Only the currency pair and amount are sent in that request — no identifying information. Rates are cached locally for 12 hours.

Matte uses localStorage to remember your preferences (theme, favorites, recently used tools, per-tool settings). This data stays on your device and is never synced or shared.

We count page views with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and no fingerprinting. Separately, when a search in the omnibox comes up empty, Matte may record just the search term — never results, files, or anything else you typed elsewhere — so we know which tools to build next. Anything that looks like a password, token, hash, email, or URL is filtered out on your device before it's ever sent, and this is on by default but can be turned off any time from the ⋯ menu (“Help improve search”). There are no trackers, no ads, no accounts, and nothing to sign up for.

Matte is a static web application. It can be installed as a Progressive Web App and used entirely offline after the first visit.

The Matte browser extension requests no permissions and collects no data. What you type after the “m” keyword in the address bar, or into the toolbar popup, is computed locally inside the extension and never sent anywhere. It contains no analytics, and it makes no network requests of its own — the only page load happens when you choose to open a result on matte.tools, which this policy then covers.
